He's having shoulder surgery today, and according to this article from fangraphs , since 2002 pitchers over age 35 who go on the disabled list for a shoulder injury average only 59 innings pitched for the rest of their careers. Out of well over 50 pitchers identified, the best outcome has Orlando Hernandez, who pitched 438 innings after going on the DL with shoulder problems.
that the quaint, "retro" look of Camden Yards, with its irregular measurements, proved to be very popular, along with a traditionalist backlash against the symmetrical, multi-purpose, "cookie-cutter" stadiums. Since the opening of Camden Yards, many other "retro" stadiums have been built, each with asymmetrical fences. These distances vary from park to park, and can even change drastically in the same park. One of the most famous examples is the original Yankee Stadium, whose odd-shaped plot of land caused right field to be over 100 feet (30 m) shorter than left, although this difference lessened over time. The rectangular Polo Grounds (of the New York Baseball Giants) had extremely short distance down the lines, 258 ft (79 m). to right and 280 ft (85 m). to left. In contrast, the deepest part of center field was nearly 500 ft (150 m). from home plate.

4/20/13: no idea what Eri Yoshida is doing at this moment -- I wasn't able to find any information on the internet regarding her plans for the 2013 season. However, in terms of the Independent A Leagues in which she's been pitching, their seasons generally don't start until May. She will probably begin appearing in news reports in three or four weeks, if she is still pitching somewhere.

I don't see any reason why Eri would not pitch in 2013 unless she hurts her arm. She is now famous in two countries and, while Independent A league salaries are miniscule, she must be making some significant money through endorsements.

It's good that someone is following yoshida. i saw her pitch in san rafael and was impressed. It may have been her best game from the stats we see. She went five innings and gave up a hit. 2 runs may have been unearned. Maui's website server doesn't seem to be working. Where is Eri, and how is she doing? thanks.

4/19/13 Update: Micah Owings is currently hitting .333 with an .841 OPS in 11 games for the AAA Syracuse Chiefs in which he's played the corner outfield positions, 1B and DH. No surprise there: Owings' career minor league batting average and OPS are .336 and .844 in 135 plate appearances. Still think that Owings would make a great major league pinch-hitter/13th (emergency) pitcher for any team willing to give him the opportunity.

My father pointed out that the Giants have more flexibility with Posey than the Twins have with Mauer, because Posey could possibly play 3B at the major league level. Posey played shortstop and pitcher in high school and started for the Florida State Seminoles at SS his freshman year of college. Only as a sophomore did he move to catcher. He also had a late-season college game where he played all nine positions on defense.

My father's thinking is that if the Giants decide not to extend Pablo Sandoval long-term because of his weight issues, the Giants could move Posey to 3B, even if Brandon Belt ends up the Giants' long-term 1Bman.

Maybe. It is worth noting that Buster Posey has played nowhere but catcher and 1B in his five year professional career. It would be awfully tough for Posey to play 3B at the major league level after years and years of not playing at that position.
