Here’s a Player the Giants Missed

I was looking at the Pacific Coast League’s batting leaders today and I noticed Joc Pederson, a 22 year old outfielder for the Dodgers’ AAA team in Albuquerque.  I’d never heard of him before, but he’s currently hitting .368/.482/.669, fantastic even for the hit-happy PCL.

Turns out Pederson was an 11th round draft pick of the Dodgers in 2010 out of high school in Palo Alto.  Obviously, the San Francisco Giants missed this prospect.

Pederson has hit extremely well throughout his minor league career, so it looks like his current performance is the real deal.  I would expect the Dodgers will promote him very soon, or at least as soon as they can do while still pushing his arbitration eligibility back a year.  Unfortunately for Pederson, the Dodgers are loaded with outfielders right now, so Pederson likely won’t play much in Los Angeles until someone gets hurt or traded.
