Congratulations to Charlie Shirek

Charlie Shirek today became the first foreign player to throw a no-hitter in South Korea’s KBO, when he and his team, the NC Dinos, beat the LG Twins 6-0.  It was the 11th no-hitter in KBO history, but the first since 2000 — the KBO is definitely a hitters’ league.

Shirek was a good AAA pitcher with not enough stuff to convince any MLB team to give him a shot.  He’s found something of a home in South Korea now, where he’s been one of the KBO’s best pitchers for a year and a half.
