Brandon Hicks Gives Way to Marco Scutaro
The Giants designated 2Bman Brandon Hicks for assignment today to create roster space for Marco Scutaro. While Hicks certainly deserved to be sent down, I’m kind of sorry to see him go. He had certainly been one the Giants’ best feel-good stories of the 2014 season, at least for about six weeks before he just stopped hitting.
I also have a great deal of doubt about whether the 38 year old Marco Scutaro is going to have much left after his long layoff. He hit .136 in nine minor league rehab games, six of them in the rookie Arizona League. That makes me think Scutaro won’t do anything in San Francisco but get in the way of Joe Panik‘s development as a major league player.
I wonder if there is any possibility of teaching 3B/1B Adam Duvall to play second base. He didn’t hit much in his brief major league trial (.167 in five games and 18 ABs), but he’s gone 12-for-21 with four doubles and three HRs in his first five full games since getting sent back to AAA Fresno. His bat just looks too good to keep him down on the farm.San Francisco Giants
