Can’t Say I’m Sad the Royals Won

As a Bay Area baseball fan, I should be rooting for the A’s in tonight’s game, but I can’t really say I’m sad the Royals won.  It’s been so long since they last played in the post-season, that it’s a good thing for MLB that the Royals will play at least three more post-season games.

In another note, it’s been reported that Adam Dunn is retiring at age 34.  He still has value as a designated and left-handed pinch hitter, and it’s a little surprising that he’s retiring only 38 home runs shy of 500.

I suspect that one of the major reasons for his retirement is that he’s in a lot more pain than has been reported.  He’s enormous at 6’6″ and 285 lbs.  Those dimensions just don’t allow for a long career after about age 33.
